Hi, everyone. Welcome to Year in the Bible. My name is Alexa and I'm here with my co-host, Beth.

Hey, friends. Today we'll be looking at our New Testament passage for this week, which is John 12, 12 through 16. Let me go ahead and read that for us. The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting, Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the

Lord, the king of Israel. Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it just as it is written. Do not be afraid,

daughter Zion, look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's cult. His disciples did not

understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that

these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. So, Beth, tell us

about your annotations. So there are a lot of things that we can take note of in this passage. First,

I thought that the first two verses were fascinating. We see that there is a large crowd who heard

that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, who met him and proclaimed that the king of Israel had arrived.

When thinking about this passage from Zechariah that we annotated earlier this week, it sounds like this crowd saw Jesus as the fulfillment of that passage.

They were rejoicing as Zechariah had told them to because the king was there.

But I thought this was super interesting

in contrast with what we read about the disciples in the last verse of the passage. They didn't

understand this connection until much later. Yeah, that's interesting. The people seem to

understand but Jesus' own disciples who have been walking with him for a while now didn't. But it is
