seeing how they connect and point to Jesus.

0:17.0

Whether you are doing the study yourself or just following along with us here, we are

0:21.7

hopeful that through studying these passages each week, you will see how Christ is not only present

0:26.6

throughout the entire biblical story, but the center of it.

Hey everyone, welcome back to another week of a year in the Bible. I'm Beth and I am here with

0:36.1

my co-host, Alexa.

0:44.0

Hi, friends. This week we'll be studying Zechariah 9-9 and John 12, 12 through 16, and we will see how Jesus is the long-awaited and humble king of Israel. So we will begin, as usual, by going over our

0:49.6

annotations. So, Alexa, can you read Zechariah 9-9 for us today? Rejoiced greatly, daughter Zion, shout in triumph, daughter Jerusalem.

0:59.0

Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a cult, the foal of a donkey.

So Beth, how did these annotations go for you?

1:09.0

Yeah, I thought this was fascinating. The study had a circle words that described the king that's mentioned in this passage. And so I circled righteous, victorious, and humble. And then I made note of what these descriptors tell us about this king. So he's a righteous king. And being righteous means that he is upstanding and good, and that he does what is right in the sight of God.

1:30.0

He's also victorious, so he has won a battle or he's conquered a land.

1:34.8

This shows us that he is strong and powerful and a champion for his people.

1:39.0

The king is also described as humble, which is an unexpected term for a king, and it also intuitively appears to contradict

1:44.7

the other two descriptions. It's strange for a victorious and righteous ruler to also be described

1:49.6

as humble, lowly, or not proud, or sacrificial. I think we might start to see where this is

1:55.2

going already, but we're not going to say too much else about this king today. Yeah, those

1:59.4

descriptions really are fascinating. This

2:01.3

king is both triumphant and humble. And yeah, we usually put those descriptions together.
