From a crappy efficiency apartment in New York City, this is obscure season four in American tragedy.

I am your host, your friend, your ear lover, and literary mansplainer in chief, Michael Ian Black. And when I say this apartment

is crappy, let me be very clear, because I'm going to talk about this a little bit further.

It's fine. The apartment is fine. By New York standards, it might even be good. But here's the

problem. New York standards are awful. I mentioned that my son

was coming to live with me during the last episode. So he has arrived and we have been looking

for apartments for him over the last week. And man, man, man, has that been a chore and a process and a trial?

Because New York City apartments, now I haven't been shopping for one in many years and now

I'm reminded why they're awful.

Awful.

We're just looking at, I mean, we've seen some okay things, but he just wants a studio

apartment.

And you can't even really get one in this city for much less than $23, $2,400 a month for just

a tiny little, you know, shoebox, basically.

And not even like a fancy shoebox, not even like a Steve Madden shoebox.

Steve Madden shoes fancy.

Not even like a Manolo Blonic shoebox.

I mean, this is like a kid's shoebox, you know.

And so it's been frustrating as we've been ambling through the city, going from apartment

building to apartment building. And then, you know, as soon as you even want to put an application

for one of these places, they're already gone because the supply is so limited and the demand is so high.

I mean, this is just basic economics.
