Summary

It's so easy to get caught up in the "physical" when you are stricken with chronic pain out of nowhere. This is exactly what happened to Adam. Otherwise healthy for his whole life, Adam began having severe pelvic and back pain, and spent years in the frustrating cycle of specialists and failed treatments. In retrospect, Adam can see so many things in his life that he was unconsciously avoiding, key among them facing his social anxiety and "addiction" to the gym for safety. Today, chronic pain free and full of wisdom and perspective, Adam and I unpack it all. You don't have to be a man or a person who's expereinced pelvic pain to get SO MUCH out of this episode. Such a great and heart-centered conversation. Enjoy! xo n.

You are here.

Hello, my friends.

0:15.0

What is up?

0:16.5

It's Nicole.

I hope that today is a good day, especially now, that you've reached my podcast,

0:22.9

The Cure for Chronic Pain. Welcome to it. Happy to hang out with you and to share yet another

0:30.2

really moving and important human story. So today I'm going to be speaking to Adam. And the reason that this is important, other than the

0:42.0

fact that every human story that we share here has such an impact, as I hear from thousands

0:48.0

of you guys all over the world and the way the human stories further your healing is Adam has overcome a condition that I think we don't

0:59.9

talk about nearly enough, which is male pelvic pain. You know, people hear the pelvis and for

1:08.0

whatever reason they just think of women. And obviously, you know,

1:11.8

when we're logically looking at that, that isn't true. But I just don't think men really talk

1:16.6

very often about the pelvic pain that they experience and the shame that can come along with that.

1:22.9

And also for, at least for Adam, the attachment that that has to exercise and lifting in the gym and all the things that can, for all of us, men, women alike, make us feel like we are in control of our bodies.

1:39.9

You know, if you can exercise, if you can move, if you can lift, if you can build your strength, you feel like you're in control, you know, to some extent, which is totally fair. I get it,

1:49.9

and I agree. And so when Adam found himself in this level of pain and then also his attachment

1:57.8

to exercise in the gym felt threatened, that was a really low point for him.

2:02.3

And that's just one of Adam's symptoms, but I definitely think it's the most important to highlight

2:07.5

here at the top that we want to keep the conversation going.

2:12.2

We want to keep the conversation relevant to any affliction that is something that people might be suffering with in silence.

2:21.1

And so super important conversation for that today.
