What is it about certain crimes that imbue them with the power to captivate a nation?

I believe part of the answer lies in our intro.

Everyone has a bit of a fascination with the dark side.

But what predicates this fascination?

When I hear a morbid tale of death or some other tragedy, it personally reminds me of my own

mortality and gives cause, even if only for a moment, to reflect on my own life. This moment in time

is special. This moment of life. I forgot exactly where I heard it and I tried to Google it to no avail, but there's a phrase I once heard,

the living are truly the envy of all the dead.

In the Bogle Chandler case specifically, I think we are drawn to the unmistakable mystery

of the whole affair.

We have seen it in other infamous true crime cases that have grabbed our attention.

John Bonae, the Black Dahlia, Jack the Ripper, and the Zodiac Killer, just to name a few.

Human beings are born with an inner drive towards discovery and conquest.

We want to know, the how, and the why.

And sometimes that itch can drive us to obsession or even madness.

As we dig further into this particular mystery, we'll examine the many theories proposed by the police,

coroner, and, perhaps most notoriously, the media.
