walk with you through Revelation in our year-long study of the New Testament. Today, we are studying

All right, we're diving back into Revelation. Are you ready? Today and tomorrow's chapters

will look a little bit different from other chapters in the book of Revelation.

Yesterday we covered that Revelation is not only apocalyptic, it's also an epistle,

written to seven churches scattered throughout Asia Minor.

If you look at a map of these cities, most likely the order they're addressed to you

is the mail route that the letter travels through.

At first glance, these letters can seem a little out of place in the grand scheme of revelation,

but they actually serve as an important anchor to the ground, so to speak,

reminding us that this revelation was given to encourage real churches going through real persecution. This book was written

to encourage them to endure suffering, not to scare them. John's prophecy was given in loving

kindness of a Lord who cares for his bond servants. And so as we read through the rest of

Revelation, I want us to remind us of this anchor.

Because we want to remember that just as this letter was written to encourage seven churches,
