We are working our way through the entire New Testament and today we are in Matthew 7.

Today is our last day in the Sermon on the Mount.

I love this passage, so it has been so great to spend three days thinking about these beautiful words of Jesus.

Matthew 7 opens with some pretty famous words.

Judge Not is a phrase that probably all of us have heard at some point.

Sadly, these are also words that have been twisted by believers and unbelievers alike.

So it is easy to come to this passage with some misconceptions. But as we look at what Jesus is saying here, it is

helpful for us to think about the context of this sermon. When we study the

Bible, we should be aware of things like historical and literary context.

So things like who wrote the book, what period of history was it written in, what genre of literature

is it.

But we should also keep in mind the literary context of the passage itself, especially when we are kind of zooming in for an in-depth study.

We must think about these words in the context of the whole sermon.
