Welcome back to a year in the Bible with daily grace. My name is Kristen Schmucker and we are just beginning our journey through the New Testament and I am so glad you are here. Today we are in

Matthew chapter 4. Jesus was fully and truly God and man. This is a theological concept known as the hypostatic union and yet in the

incarnation that's the doctrine that Jesus took on human flesh and lived on

earth as a man we see that Jesus willingly set aside some of the privileges or benefits

of his deity to fully enter into the human experience.

Today we look at the temptation of Jesus. We see that Jesus faced temptation in a way that we could emulate.

He faced temptation with the power of the Spirit and the Word of God.

Jesus was led by the spirit. Though God does not

tempt us, he often allows us to walk through difficult seasons or seasons of

testing. Jesus was fasting and he had been for 40 days and 40 nights.

Scripture tells us that he was hungry. He was likely tired, weak, and isolated from

society when the tempter approached him.

We can find great comfort in the way that Jesus faced temptation as a man.

Hebrews 218 tells us that for since he himself has suffered when he was tempted he is able to help those who are tempted.

And Hebrew 415 says,

for we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness, but one

who has been tempted in every way as we are yet without sin.

As we read and seek to understand the temptation of Christ, we must not lose sight of the hope and comfort that the temptation gives to us.
