Today we have come to Matthew 3,

and in today's chapter we are introduced to John the Baptist and we witness the baptism of Jesus.

A lot of time has passed since yesterday's reading.

Jesus is now 30 years old and his public ministry is about to begin.

John the Baptist is new to the narrative and when we get to the book of Luke we're

going to learn more about John's parents, conception, and birth.

It is important for us to know as we begin that John was the

cousin of Jesus and had encountered Jesus while John and Jesus were both still in the

wombs of their mothers. Even from his mother's womb John recognized

when he was in the presence of Jesus. Luke's gospel tells us that John leapt in his

mother's womb for joy.

I am so fascinated by this and what it must have been like
