0:38.0	Today we have come to Matthew 3,
0:40.1	and in today's chapter we are introduced to John the Baptist and we witness the baptism of Jesus.
0:46.0	A lot of time has passed since yesterday's reading.
0:49.0	Jesus is now 30 years old and his public ministry is about to begin.
0:54.0	John the Baptist is new to the narrative and when we get to the book of Luke we're
0:58.4	going to learn more about John's parents, conception, and birth.
1:01.6	It is important for us to know as we begin that John was the
1:05.5	cousin of Jesus and had encountered Jesus while John and Jesus were both still in the
1:10.6	wombs of their mothers. Even from his mother's womb John recognized
1:15.2	when he was in the presence of Jesus. Luke's gospel tells us that John leapt in his
1:20.5	mother's womb for joy.
1:22.7	I am so fascinated by this and what it must have been like
1:25.8	to be in the presence of Jesus.
