0:28.0	through the New Testament and today we begin Paul's letter to the Colossians. It is always an exciting day when we begin a new book and this is another one of my favorites.

0:49.4	The Book of Colossians was written by Paul to the church at Kalaise. It is written to the faithful
0:55.3	brothers and sisters in the church. Most scholars believe that this church had
1:00.1	been inundated with false teaching.
1:02.5	In addition to this, this was a young church,
1:05.4	not that many years after the resurrection of Jesus.
1:09.0	The book places a large emphasis
1:11.3	on the supremacy of Christ, and it seems what Paul was speaking to was a message
1:16.5	that presented Jesus plus something else. But Jesus plus anything is not the message of the gospel.
1:25.0	After Paul's initial greeting, he moves into Thanksgiving for the church at Kallossi.
1:31.0	In this passage, Paul speaks of the marks of a Christian. They are known by faith, hope, and love.
1:38.0	These are not things that we possess on our own, but if they are the work of the spirit of God in the life of his people.
1:45.9	These things flow from who Jesus is, and the call of discipleship and walking with Jesus is a call to be more like Christ himself.
1:55.0	Paul focuses on the gospel and its beauty and power.
