through the New Testament and today we begin Paul's letter to the Colossians. It is always an exciting day when we begin a new book and this is another one of my favorites.

The Book of Colossians was written by Paul to the church at Kalaise. It is written to the faithful

brothers and sisters in the church. Most scholars believe that this church had

been inundated with false teaching.

In addition to this, this was a young church,

not that many years after the resurrection of Jesus.

The book places a large emphasis

on the supremacy of Christ, and it seems what Paul was speaking to was a message

that presented Jesus plus something else. But Jesus plus anything is not the message of the gospel.

After Paul's initial greeting, he moves into Thanksgiving for the church at Kallossi.

In this passage, Paul speaks of the marks of a Christian. They are known by faith, hope, and love.

These are not things that we possess on our own, but if they are the work of the spirit of God in the life of his people.
