This year we will fix our gaze upon Christ so that we may know

him, not only with our minds but with our hearts. Together we will learn that

who Jesus is changes everything.

Hello and welcome to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is Katie and together we are reading through the New Testament in a year and we are currently

working through the Book of Acts studying Acts 22.

Before we dive into this chapter, we need to paint a scene from yesterday's chapter.

In acts 21, Paul heads to Jerusalem,

but not without being warned multiple times of danger ahead.

These are warnings that come to fruition as Paul is attacked by Jews who believe that Paul is

disgracing the Jewish law. Jerusalem turns to chaos and Paul is beaten senselessly, only to be saved by a Roman commander.

At the end of acts 21, Paul asks the commander if he can speak to the people.

We see Paul's identity as a Roman citizen become very important in today's chapter and in the chapters the head

for Roman citizens are not supposed to be convicted unless they receive a hearing

Paul's citizenship protects him at least from being sentenced without a conviction.

Today's chapter begins Paul addressed to the crowd who beat him.

As we read this, I think it's important to remember that Paul

used to live as a piracy. Just a few years prior, Paul would have likely been in this crowd

defending the law at all costs.

Paul understands these people, where they're coming from, and he knows exactly how to talk

to them, how to speak their language.
