0:45.8	relationship. If you've ever been in a relationship like that or are wondering what
0:50.7	that means, discipleship is simply believers in Christ coming alongside other
0:56.0	believers to help and encourage them in their relationship with God.
1:01.2	Discipleship relationships can take a variety of different forms, but they are so valuable for the flourishing of a believer's faith.
1:09.0	We are made to love God in community with one another, to confess our sins together, encourage one another,
1:16.5	and carry each other's burdens. In First and Second Timothy, we get an inside look into the discipleship relationship between Paul and his proclaimed
1:26.2	son in the faith, Timothy.
1:28.7	Before we dive into today's verses, let's spend some time, as we we always do talking about the context. We know Paul well but who is
1:38.0	Timothy? We have actually been introduced to him already when we studied the book of acts. If you turn the pages of
1:45.0	your Bible back to act 16, we meet Timothy, a disciple of good character chosen by Paul to accompany
1:52.4	him in ministry. We also learned that Timothy's dad
1:55.8	was Greek and his mother was Jewish and in 2nd Timothy 1-5 Paul commends Timothy's
2:02.0	genuine faith that first lived in his grandmother, Lois, and then in his mother, Eunice. faithful discipleship through the generations.
2:13.4	And as a mom today, that encourages me so much.
