This year we will fix our gaze upon Christ so that we may know him, not only with our minds but with our hearts. Together we will learn that

All right friends yesterday Paul encouraged the persecuted Thessalonians by

drawing their attention to Jesus's return. He taught them that there is not one second where their

soul will be apart from Christ. Even if they die before Jesus's second coming,

when they close their eyes in this world, their soul's eyes will open to Jesus.

That is a hope that they can cling to.

Today Paul continues to encourage the suffering Thessalonians by teaching them what it means

to live in light of Christ's return.

But first, let's define Day of the Lord, which Paul describes in 1st

Thessalonians 5, 1 through 11.

Put simply, the Day of the Lord is the Second Coming of Christ, when Jesus

will finally come in glory to establish his kingdom in full. For Christians, this is

a day of great hope. For those who reject Jesus, this day should be feared. For God's

wrath will be poured out on his enemies. The knowledge of the exact time and date of

Christ's return is not for us to know. Jesus even says in

Matthew 2436 now concerning that day an hour no one knows neither the angels of heaven nor the son except the father alone.
