Welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is Katie, and together we are walking through the New Testament in a year.

Currently, we are studying First Corinthians, and today we will be in 1st

Corinthians 9. As always you can follow along with the behold studies in the

Daily Grace Coast shop or with a reading plan linked in the show notes.

Yesterday in chapter 8 Paul began to address a portion of the letter written to him by the Corinthian Church about whether or not it was okay to eat food sacrifice to Greek idols.

Some more knowledgeable in their faith knew that these idols were not real gods,

and therefore they saw this food sacrifice to these idols as merely food.

On the other hand, new believers could not separate the food from the idol that it was sacrificed to.

Paul advised the Corinthians to abstain from eating this food sacrificed to idols in respect for their brothers and sisters newer to the face.

To abandon their privilege and love for other members of the church body, which is actually

loving Jesus who's the head of the church.

Today in chapter 9, Paul proves his own ministry

as an example of what it means to lay aside privileges

for the sake of the gospel.

Not only is Paul using himself as an example, but he's

defending his ministry from those who take his meekness for weakness. In other

words, those who doubt his authority because of his humble way of life.
