Summary

Suffering is designed by the enemy to destroy our faith, but God’s design for suffering is to strengthen our faith. So how do we have this perspective of suffering? In today’s podcast, Emma Dotter is joined by a faithful Watermark Member George Dalton to unpack this question. George leaves us with this thought, “I welcome the scalpel of the Spirit to continue to cut away the ugly dross in my heart so I can see God and be an effective tool in His hand.”

 Additional Scriptures in this Podcast:
Romans 5:3-5, “Not only that, we rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, produces hope…”
Isaiah 48:10, “Behold I have refined you, not as silver, I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.”
1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability…”
The book of James: the whole book reminds us of how to respond to suffering.
Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

I'm glad to have you here to talk with us about Job 30. But before we get to Chapter 30,

1:00.7

specifically, what do we need to know about the book of Job? Well, Job is a difficult book.

1:06.4

It's a difficult book to study and to read because suffering is difficult. Suffering is difficult for the

1:12.5

person that is going through it. And it's also difficult for the community around that person,

1:17.1

because we really don't know what to say to comfort them or to help them get through this.

And so that's just a subject we typically try to just avoid.
