And I am so excited as we take a field trip to the book of Psalms today.

I don't know about you, but reading these Psalms was a nice change of pace.

And reading them in light of what we are studying in First Samuel adds richness to our understanding that might not have been there before.

As we take a look at Psalm 11 and 59, we want to think about the words David wrote in light of his current circumstances.

But also how these truths about the character of God provided David with confidence.

The same confidence our great God gives to believers through Christ.

Let's start with Psalm 59.

Before we take a look at the content, let's set the stage for the events that led to the writing of this Psalm.

Yesterday, we read about the seven attempts on David's life from King Saul.

Psalm 59 specifically speaks to the palace agents that surrounded David's home in First Samuel 19.

As we read this Psalm, we can hear the desperation and anger in David's voice as he wonders what he's done to deserve these snarling dogs prowling around the city and his home.

But even in his despair, he cries out to the Lord.

David knows that it is God alone who can rescue him from his foes.

In the first 10 verses of Psalm 59, he cries out for help and vengeance upon these men who seek him for no other reason than the jealous rage of the King.

He trusts God as his stronghold and the one who will come to meet him in his time of need.

After reading First Samuel 19, we know God saved David from these men with the help of his wife, Michael, and David escaped through a window.
