My name is Tiffany and I want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through the Bible chronologically.

Tiffany here and today we head back to the Psalms.

Yesterday we talked about the events leading up to and during David's early reign as king.

This time period was filled with both grief and triumph in David's life.

And as we look at these four Psalms today, it's helpful for us to remember that even in grief, distress and lament,

we can still praise God for who he is.

We can still worship our God who is our rescue, refuge and stronghold.

We can still trust him like David did.

While we don't know the specific time period David wrote these Psalms,

the recent events we've read about in Second Samuel could easily explain David's grief and triumph throughout these Psalms.

As we take a look at each one, let's be sure to notice that whether David is joyful or sorrowful, all glory is given to God.

Let's get started with Psalm 6.

David's reign began with great sorrow and lament as he heard about the deaths of Saul and Jonathan and later dealt with the deaths of Abner and Isbusheth.

As we read this Psalm, we can feel his anguish as he speaks of his tears, groaning, weeping and grief.

But he isn't afraid to share all of these emotions with the Lord.

He asks him to be gracious and even cries out how long.

But no matter how weary he becomes from his trouble, David trusts in the faithful love of the Lord.

David knows the Lord hears his cries and accepts his prayers.
