Tiffany here, and we are once again in the book of Proverbs today.

As we continue to learn what it means to fear the Lord and grow in wisdom,

Proverbs 16 through 18 gives us much to ponder and apply.

Like our previous days of study, Solomon contrasts the way of the righteous and the wicked.

In Proverbs 16-16, Solomon encourages us in this endeavor when he says,

get wisdom, how much better it is than gold, and get understanding it is preferable to silver.

Today, we will grow in our wisdom in understanding concerning the right path to follow

and why we must guard our lips against gossip.

Now, if you're thinking we covered the tongue just a few days ago, we did.

But the tongue, lips, mouth, and gossip is a very prevalent theme in Proverbs.

So, we're going to talk about it again today, and we will look at some important New Testament passages

that help believers grow in this area as well.

But first, let's get started with the theme of a person's ways, steps, or path.

This phrase is found in seven Proverbs in chapter 16.

A person's ways or steps indicate the posture of their heart toward the Lord.

But these Proverbs also remind us that God has complete control over our steps.

Our control is merely a mirage.
