We are currently making our way through the book of Proverbs.

Just to remind us where we are on our chronological journey, Solomon has established his throne.

And in 1 Kings 4, we read that he wrote thousands of songs and Proverbs.

Before we return to 1 Kings and study the building of the temple, we are on a brief detour to read many of Solomon's Proverbs.

As I mentioned yesterday, we have now moved on to the chapters where each verse is a two-phrase proverb.

In essence, they stand alone, but the thread that binds them together is the continual comparison of the righteous and the wicked.

The righteous will embrace wisdom while the wicked will not.

Even in Proverbs 159, we read today the Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves the one who pursues righteousness.

Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, and Solomon's Proverbs, penned through the guidance of the Holy Spirit,

teach believers how to walk in holiness.

Like yesterday, we don't have time to talk through each proverb, so we will chat about some of the overarching themes found throughout Proverbs 13 through 15.

Yesterday, we looked at laziness and the tongue, which you likely noticed sprinkled even throughout our chapters today.

The themes we will zoom in on for this podcast are discipline and knowledge.

So let's get started with discipline.

If you think back to Proverbs 3 11 through 12, Solomon introduced this theme when he addressed his son.

In these two verses, he says,

Do not despise the Lord's instruction, my son, and do not loathe his discipline.
