So let's walk through Numbers 4-6 together and see if we can gain some clarity.

Yesterday, in chapter 3, we read about the first levitical census and their role in redeeming

the first born of Israel.

Now, in chapter 4, we zoom in on the three clans of co-hafites, gertianites, and mararites.

We learn about their roles in moving the tabernacle and another census is taken of

the thirty to fifty year old males in each clan.

These men were considered to be in the prime of their life according to Jewish tradition,

and were therefore qualified to do the hard labor of moving the tabernacle and its articles.

When Israel broke camp, their job was to move the most holy objects of tabernacle.
