Hi friends, Tiffany here. Welcome back to our walk through Scripture from Eden to eternity.

Every day is an exciting day around here, right? But today is even more so because we get to dive into a new book.

With each new book and passage, we learn more and more about God's plan of redemption.

As always, we are going to take a few minutes to talk through the context and major themes of the book of Numbers, and then we'll talk about the importance of chapters 1 through 3.

Like Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus, most scholars believe Moses is the author of Numbers.

While Leviticus gave us a brief pause at the foot of Mount Sinai to receive the law, Numbers is considered

the sequel of Exodus, as it picks back up with the events of the nation in the wilderness.

Numbers will span 40 years of Israel's history, all while they wander in the wilderness.

Numbers can be broken into two parts, the events of the generation that left Egypt,

and the events of the second generation poised to enter the promised land.

These two sections also provide us with the major themes that flow through the book.

Chapters 1 through 25 focus on Israel's sin and rebellion against God's commands and statutes,

Chapters 26 through 36 are more hopeful as the second generation experiences God's faithfulness to His covenant despite their sin.
