I just got to have a conversation with someone who is an old, old deer friend and colleague.

We were in graduate school together. She was the rock star of our program at Columbia University.

Her name is Professor Anna Johnson. She's a provost, distinguished professor of psychology at

Georgetown University. She's a hybrid scholar with dual degrees in developmental psychology and

public policy. In addition to being an esteemed professor and is also the principal investigator of

a multi-million dollar seven-year longitudinal study of low-income children and as primary

research focuses on the effects of publicly funded early care and educational experiences

in low-income children's development. She also is a professor of psych 101 with freshman at Georgetown.

Her breadth of knowledge is out of control. So I wanted to initially have a conversation with her

in response to a study that came out that got a lot of people's attention that was about

universal pre-K having negative or neutral outcomes for a cohort of state funded programs

in Tennessee which somehow in the news was translated to universal pre-K is now not considered

good. I really just thought oh this is when we need science to get translated properly so that

people don't make terrible mistakes about it. So we are going to talk about the merits of pre-K

of course but we also are going to talk about when you are looking at studies or articles about
