Hey here in the Bible family. Welcome back. Tiffany here and today we continue our journey through Ecclesiastes as we look at chapters 5-8.

Admittedly, these chapters can be hard to read and oftentimes make us wonder where the hope of the gospel is found in them.

But what Ecclesiastes does so well is portray for us what life would be like if there was no good news of Christ.

Without Jesus, life would be meaningless, hollow, and empty.

Every pursuit under the sun would simply be futile.

As we read these chapters, Solomon's words shouldn't make us sad or depressed.

They should remind our hearts that we do have meaning because we have a glorious Savior.

Our lives aren't empty. They are filled with the very person who gave us life.

So as we walk through this book, we hold on to this truth and we don't despair.

Before we jump into the chapters themselves, I wanted to draw our attention to a phrase we have read multiple times already and we'll read even tomorrow.

Over 25 times in this book, we read the phrase under the sun.

This phrase displays Solomon's universal worldview of the things he can physically see and experience.

What it lacks is eternal perspective.

It drives the point that all earthly things are indeed meaningless when our perspective is not on the Lord and his statutes and commands.

It is the presence of God that brings meaning to our lives.

Without the hope of Christ, there is no hope in life or in death.

We don't place our trust in the things under the sun, but in the one who created the sun.
