Today on the Strong Women podcast, my dear friend Jeanette Simba is with us.

Jeanette is from Rwanda and immigrated here to America in 1998, so she's been here a while.

And she works harder than any woman I know.

And she also not only works harder than anybody I know, but she is so generous

with her time. Every time I call her, she answers just about. And I think she does that with

everybody. And then also, she is so invested in helping refugees who are coming to America

for the first time get situated. And

let me tell you a little bit about how Jeanette and I first met. So we go to a small church in

Colorado Springs. And several years ago, a African family started coming to our church. And I didn't

know anything about their story because they speak Swahili.

I speak English.

And all we could do to show each other that we cared was we smiled a lot, we hugged a lot,

we shook hands a lot.

I talked to the kids a lot.

Several months after they started coming to our church, they were having their daughter baptized.

Terrence, the father, saw me, and he's motioning for me to follow him. So I follow him into our

pastor's office, and that is the first time I met Jeanette. And Jeanette was there to help

translate for the baptism. And the first thing she said to me was, they would like for you to be the godmother. And I feel like I almost fainted because I was kind of like, what does that even mean in African culture? Jeanette started walking me through it and I said, okay, hold on. Can I go get my husband? And she says, is that how you do it here? And I'm like, I don't know, but yes, I'd want to
