I know I say that a lot, and I know I geek out a lot on the things that we talk about.

But today is exciting because we add the Davidic covenant to our growing list of God's promises.

Thus far, we've seen God establish the Adamic covenant, Abraham covenant, and the Mosaic covenant.

And each covenant is a stepping stone in God's plan of redemption.

As we hop from one stone to another, we get closer and closer to their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

And each one reveals another aspect of God's plan, his character, and his faithfulness.

The account of God's covenant with David is found in both 2 Samuel 7 and 1 Chronicles 17.

Except for a few word differences here and there, they are basically the same, further declaring Scriptures divine author.

When we read these accounts, we don't actually see the word covenant mentioned.

That is where our journey to the Psalms yesterday helps us out.

Yesterday we studied Psalm 89, and in Psalm 89 3 we read,

The Lord said, I have made a covenant with my chosen one. I have sworn in oath to David my servant.

When we use Scripture to interpret Scripture, we see how this was indeed a covenant, an important one with eternal implications.

We also know from Psalm 89 34 that we can trust the Lord because He declares,

I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said.

This covenant with David is binding and even today believers experience its significance.
