| 1:35.0 | This also served as an olive branch for peace, but Hanun's advisors gave him some really bad advice and made him question David's motives. |
| 1:47.0 | Not only that, they humiliated these emissaries by shaving their beards and stripping half of their clothing off. |
| 1:57.0 | In this time period, beards were a mark of status and respect. |
| 2:02.0 | To be clean shaven meant you were likely a servant or a slave, and to be stripped naked in any capacity was degrading. |
| 2:13.0 | King Hanun and his men knew this, and in effect, cut off all diplomatic relations with Israel with this act. |
| 2:21.0 | When David heard about his ambassadors' humiliation, he showed great care for them by allowing them to stay in Jericho for their beards to grow out before they returned home. |
