with your host, Emma, daughter. Thanks for joining. Today's chapter covers the beginning of Gideon's story.

0:13.5

Because before he was the victorious conqueror, we know in love, he was timid and a reluctant

0:18.9

follower of the Lord. In reality, we often have this

0:22.5

rose-colored perspective on Gideon's story that isn't quite accurate. So here's the deal. As we've

0:28.1

learned thus far from judges, when the people do what's right in their own eyes instead of following

0:32.7

the Lord's commands, it goes poorly. In today's chapter, the Lord gave them into the hands of the Midianites,

0:39.2

who were Bedouin nomads living in the desert plains. The Midianites, instead of farming and producing

0:44.8

their own crops, decided to let the Israelites harvest theirs, and then they'd go on raids to

1:27.7

That's verses 1 through 6.

1:29.3

So the prophet didn't save them.

1:31.5

He was just like, yeah, remember what God's done and you're disobeying, so that's why all these rights are happening.

1:37.3

But don't worry. The Lord had a plan and how he would deliver his people from the control of the enemy.

1:42.3

He goes to Gideon, a man who self-declares, or declares of

1:46.3

himself, in verse 15, that he is the least in his father's house, which is part of the weakest clan

1:52.3

of Manasseh, so a subgroup of the tribe. Is he being humble, humility being a quality we should all be

1:59.0

striving for? Or is he refusing to trust and be confident

2:04.0

in how the Lord has created him? Which raises a good question. False humility. Like, are there
