0:16.2	Together, we will explore God's sovereign plan as the events of Scripture unfold and point to Jesus.
0:24.6	Hey friends, welcome back to our journey from Eden to eternity.
0:29.1	Today, our chronological journey takes a 20-year leap in time.
0:34.5	After Solomon built the temple and his palace, we come to the chapters in First Kings and
0:40.3	Second Chronicles that detail the growth, might, and wealth of his kingdom. And while this might seem
0:46.7	like a lot of outdated historical details, they actually provide much insight into Israel's future
0:53.2	and provide us with a warning concerning our
0:56.3	own tendencies to keep one foot in the world while the other worships the Lord.
1:01.7	Let's begin today with 1 Kings 9.
1:05.0	The first half of this chapter should have been a review for us.
1:08.5	Two days ago, we studied 2 Chronicles 7 and looked at God's
1:12.8	response to Solomon. That response is recorded here in 1 Kings 9 as well. God clearly tells Solomon
1:20.4	the outcome of his and the nation's obedience or the consequences they will face for disobedience. They have no excuse as they move forward.
1:31.3	We are then told that Solomon had been on the throne for 20 years when the temple and his palace
1:37.4	compound were complete. The rest of the chapter details Solomon's vast empire.
1:49.0	As we talk about the land holdings, trade routes, laborers, and wealth,
1:54.7	notice that God is not consulted in Solomon's enterprising decisions.
1:59.5	And we will begin to see how his heart is turned from the Lord to the practices of pagan nations.
