| 0:46.0 | So I'm going to spend a lot of time talking about context today and how first and second Chronicles will color a lot of the events ahead on our journey. |

| 1:06.0 | A few days ago, we read the events of Second Samuel, chapters 1 through 4. |
| 1:12.0 | In those chapters, David is King over Judah, but not King over all of Israel yet, and we read about the deaths of Abner and Ishbosheth. |
| 1:24.0 | Now we come to Chronicles. |
| 1:27.0 | First and second Chronicles are unique books and that they were written hundreds of years after the events that occur within them. |
| 1:36.0 | Scholars believe that the scribe Ezra likely wrote this book, but we don't know for certain. |
| 1:43.0 | So more often than not, the author is referred to as the Chronicleer. |
| 1:48.0 | These two books, which were originally one in the Hebrew Bible, were written to share Israel's history with those returning from exile. |
| 1:59.0 | Exile is what the Israelites will face in their future due to their disobedience to God's statutes and their blatant worship of idols. |
| 2:09.0 | But we will also read about the remnant God will return to the Promised Land. |
| 2:15.0 | The Chronicleer's words are meant to encourage this remnant. |
| 2:20.0 | The Chronicleer shares history from Adam through David and Solomon's reign, the lives of the kings of Judah, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the remnant's return from exile. |
| 2:36.0 | What this means for us is that chapters from first and second Chronicles will be spread throughout our Old Testament journey. |
