This week is the launch of our season 18, kind of our in-between season, where we're just

taken every week to bring on special guests that work in the criminal justice field, to do

any educational content we can do just to help us all

be better informed and better able to do our jobs as criminal justice warriors as time goes on

in our upcoming seasons. I know I told you guys in this week's follow-up episode that the plan

for this week was as I was going to go through the custodial interviews and Miranda and all that case law.

But I got into a conversation with a very talented lawyer that's worked on a bunch of cases that we're

familiar with, including the Delphi case.

And we got to talking about the question that had come up in this week's follow-up about

conviction integrity units and how they work.

And Michael happens to be an expert in that.

I'll call you an expert, more expert than me.

So without any further ado, I want to introduce.

And anybody that follows Bob Mata is already aware of this guy who he is, Mr. Michael

Osbrook.

And Mike, I'll let you introduce yourself and share your background a little bit with everybody.

So I'm a habeas lawyer for the last 15 years. I've been doing mostly federal habeas cases from state convictions.

There are also habeas cases from federal convictions, but I don't do many of those.

And for 10 of the last 15 years, I just stopped about a

year ago, taught a clinic at the Morris School of Law here in Bloomington at the university,

in which the students and I litigated federal habeas cases and we had pretty terrific success.
