Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the a year in the Bible with Daily Grace podcast. I'm

Christian and today we're discussing numbers 22 through 24. So these chapters are primarily

about two men named Balak and Balam. They're both B names. So stick with me as I walk through

this story. So Balak was the king of Moab and he was concerned because the Israelites were

approaching his kingdom. The Israelites had already defeated the Amorites and were coming

right for the people of Moab. And so of course his people were really afraid. So Balak called

Balam who was a diviner at the time because he wanted to hire Balam to curse the people of Israel.

Balak even said elders with money to go hire Balam. But the Lord spoke to Balam telling him not

to go with the messengers because the Israelites were blessed. And so Balam said no to the King's

request and he sent the messengers away. But undeterred Balak sent more princes who were even more

honorable to ask Balam the same question. And Balam responded the same way saying even if Balak

were to give me his house full of silver or gold I couldn't go beyond the command of the Lord.

But this time God told Balam if the people have come to call you go with them but only do what I

tell you. And so Balam went but evidently he went in a way that dishonored God because God was

angry he had gone and so God sent an angel to stand in the middle of the road. And while on this

journey the donkey that Balam was riding suddenly stopped moving it just wouldn't go any further

and so Balam got angry at his donkey. He struck it three times until the Lord opened the mouth of

the donkey and the donkey spoke to him essentially saying why are you doing this?
