points to Jesus. Hi everyone welcome back to a year in the Bible with daily grace. My name is

Ali and I am one of the hosts of the podcast. Today we are digging into John 10 through 12. In the last episode we talked about

Jesus being living water in the light of the world.

He pointed to himself as the Messiah, and many believed his teaching, while others did not.

He came to make us new, to cleanse us, to make a way for us, to change us because of who he is, and as he changes us, we too seek to share him with others as we carry his light into the weary world.

As we begin chapter 10, Jesus continues his teaching to the Pharisees and teaches about himself as the good shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep.

Those in Christ belong to him and he cares for them as he leads them.

Yet the Pharisees are still blind to their own sin.

The miracles that Jesus performs and the truth that he shares about who he is do not change their hearts or open their eyes.

He is the Shepherd of Israel, much different than the Pharisees who act as false Shepherds of the people because their guidance does not lead to

salvation. Jesus has come to bring eternal life. They continue questioning him and tell him to tell them plainly if he is the Messiah.

Jesus could have become impatient or angry with them, yet he responds,

I did tell you and you don't believe

that the works he does testify about him.

And he goes back to this idea of sheep and shepherd, explaining that the sheep know the

shepherd's voice, yet we see that clearly these men do not. They pick up rocks to stone him for blasphemy when he claims he is one with

his father in heaven. But Jesus was able to elude them because it was not his time. We transition into chapter 11 to some of

Jesus's last days on earth. This chapter tells the story of Lazarus, a story of another miracle, and one that foreshadows Christ's death and resurrection in the coming chapters.

Jesus' friend, Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, has passed away.

Jesus knew Lazarus was sick because Mary and Martha had shared the news with him, hoping that he would heal their brother before he passed.
