points to Jesus. Hey everybody welcome back to another episode of a year in the Bible with

Daily Grace. This is Stephanie your host through Jeremiah. let's dive right in.

Today we are covering Chapter 16, 17, and 18.

Chapter 16 begins with God telling Jeremiah to remain single.

He instructs him not to take a wife and have kids. This was actually

God's kindness toward Jeremiah because of the looming destruction and exile. In this time where there will be a lot of death

and mourning, God tells Jeremiah not to lament or mourn or sympathize with the people

because he has quote removed his peace from these people as well as his

faithful love and compassion unquote. God tells Jeremiah that the people will ask

why this terrible disaster is upon them.

And here is what Jeremiah is told to say to them.

I'm going to read it directly from scripture.

Because your ancestors abandoned me, this is the Lord's declaration, and followed other

gods, served them, and bowed in worship to them. Indeed, they abandoned me and did not keep my

instruction. You did more evil than your ancestors. Look, each one of

you was following the stubbornness of his evil heart, not obeying me. Now God was going to give them what they wanted to worship other gods. In

Babylon the people could worship their idols of choice all night and day. But did you

catch what God said immediately after that? He told them that

he would deliver them from Babylon. Just as he delivered their ancestors from Egypt, he would deliver them again. It would be a second exodus.

But more, this deliverance would be even greater than the previous, so much so that that is what the people will recount to future generations.
