podcast. Today we take a look at Isaiah chapters 10 through 12. Chapter 10 picks up where we left off in

chapter 11, quite literally. Once again we see the word whoa.

This is still directed at the northern kingdom known as Israel.

We read through a large list of why God was angry in chapter 9.

And here in these first four verses of chapter 10, we see one more reason for his anger.

Israel was neglecting the orphan, the widow, and the poor.

This was a grievous offense in Israelite culture. God had

specifically told the people through Moses that the orphan, widow, and

alien were to be cared for by the nation.

We read in Deuteronomy 1018,

he executes justice for the fatherless and the widow and loves the resident alien, giving him food and clothing.

Their neglect had brought judgment.

God would use the nation of Assyria to bring this judgment on Israel as we have already seen.

But in chapter 10 verse 5, we also read, Woe to the Assyrians.

As the passage tells us, God intended to use Assyria

as his tool of discipline, but then we read

that he will punish Assyria for their hand

in the destruction of his people.
