Welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This is Joanna Kimberl and I am

your host through the book of Genesis. So today we are chatting about Genesis 10 through

after each day of study. So chapter 9 ended with Noah's curse on ham and his blessings

on Shem and his brother, Japheth. Now chapter 10 transitions into a new section with the

descendants of these brothers. Now I know it can be tempting to skip over genealogies,

but they're actually really important. This chapter is called the Table of Nations because

it shows how this one family spread to become the nations of the world. The descendants

of Japheth were Indo-European Gentiles, the descendants of ham became the enemies of

Israel at the time, including the Canaanites, the Babylonians and the Assyrians, and the descendants

of Shem were the original audience of the book of Genesis. They were Israelites. The amazing

thing is even though the promised offspring would come from the line of Shem, God would

welcome people from every language and clan and tribe into his family. So we have just

seen all these people spread throughout the earth speaking all different languages, and

chapter 11 shows us how that happened with the story of the Tower of Babel. So all of these
