My name is Kristen and I've been your host through the Book of Amos and today we're

finishing the book by talking about chapters 7 through 9.

And so as we read today's chapters, we see five visions of judgment.

And for the first two we see this pattern where Amos sees a vision from the Lord and he intercedes for the people and the Lord relents.

So we see this vision of locusts, destroying the land and a judgment of fire. But Amos intercedes for the land and a judgment of fire but Amos intercedes for the people and the

Lord relents and for two of the visions the one with the plum line and a

basket of fruit the Lord gives this vision and then he asks Amos a question.

And after Amos responds, God then explains and judges the people.

And then the judgments continue.

And we read about the final vision in chapter 9

when Amos records a vision that's

the destruction of the land and it's utterly terrifying. And we close the book, but

before we close the book we find this glimmer of hope. One day, God will

re-establish the throne and the dynasty of David with a good king.

The people's fortunes will be restored, they will rebuild the cities, they will eat of their gardens.

God will plant them in the land and they will never be uprooted again.

And I love that the book ends this way.

Though it's a book of a lot of judgment, we also remember that God is merciful and he's patient and he could

have destroyed the people with the first offense or the second or the third but he
