The Wagner Group.

Progocin. What is it? We understand its combat in Ukraine is said to have been successful

to a point, but it is now the center of great interest because the Russian Federation

says that it's going to absorb it into the military. The Russian Federation says that

it's going to surrender its weapons. At the same time, Progocin himself is said to be

reported to be in Belarus and exile, perhaps with Wagner Group members, perhaps not.

What else is it besides this dominant story of a mutiny and insurrection in rebellion?

I welcome Josh Rogan of the Washington Post, writing about the group of Wagner outside

of Ukraine, outside of Belarus, in Africa, but around the world. Josh, a very good evening

to the countries that are immediately listed where there are deployments of group of

Wagner Central African Republic, Madagascar, Libya, Mozambique. Certainly there are other

African countries named Eswatini, Botswana. What is it that they're doing in Africa?

Is it mercenary work? Money laundering? Do we know? Good evening, Josh.

Good evening, John. Well, the short answer is all of the above. Wagner troops have been

used as semi-deniable instruments of the Russian National Security State for about a decade,

but what started out as sort of mercenary troops that little green men that entered Kremlin

and stuff like that has now become a worldwide conglomerate, an international crime organization

that includes everything from mining and shipping and transport to training foreign militaries

in order to support various African dictatorships. Then fighting alongside partisans in wars

all over the Middle East, including in Sudan and Libya and Mali, just to name a few.
