It is a historically significant part of the Black Sea Basin, once called Bessarabia. It mostly speaks

you Romanian, it has its own tongue. However it's been under pressure and

concern for some time because of Ukraine war Ukraine is wrapped around it

Odessa Oblast is right next door but also because there is reason to believe

that Russia wants to acquire, reacquire, influence the people of Moldova

who generally speaking do not want that.

And now we've had a vote in Moldova that says yes to the EU, but there's controversy.

I read from the BBC report, people in Moldova have backed the Eastern European countries

proposed changes to its constitution and

commitment to joining the EU.

However, almost immediately after the votes were in, the vote carried just marginally so far, counting 50.46 for yes, 49.54 for no.
