Hello from CNN, I'm Jo Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, May 27th.

Russia hit Ukraine with record-breaking drone and missile attacks over the weekend,

killing dozens of people. Moscow's forces bombarded the capital, Kiev and other regions

across the country, with officials saying another two people were killed and 16 wounded in

strikes overnight. In the wake of the attacks, Germany and other European allies gave Ukraine

the green light to use long-range missiles to strike inside Russia. President Donald Trump

condemned the weekend attacks and said his Russian counterpart,

Vladimir Putin, has gone, quote, absolutely crazy. In comments the Kremlin described as an emotional

overload, former CNN Moscow bureau chief, Jill Dority, says Russia is doing a balancing act.

It doesn't look at domestically for President Putin to be called crazy.

So what they're trying to do is kind of smooth down, you know,

the edges of those comments by President Trump and keep the ball rolling,

but, you know, not create too many problems in the relationship at this point.

Israel's military says it's preparing for what it called an unprecedented attack on Gaza. And as CNN's Jeremy Diamond explains, Palestinians are once again being told to leave huge parts of the enclave.
