Now you know there are more than 800 marathons organised every single year,

but only six have the title of World Marathon Major,

Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City. However, it looks like six could soon become seven.

Currently, three marathons are attempting to become the seventh world major sometime after 2025.

And they are the Sydney Marathon, the Cape Town Marathon and the Chengdu Marathon in China.

They are the three races vying to make it a seven-star finisher medal.

One of the world majors is taking place this coming Sunday.

So good luck to everyone running the New York City Marathon.

It's always held on the first Sunday of November.

The first New York City Marathon was held 53 years ago on September the 13th, 1970,

with 127 competitors running just several loops around the Park Drive of Central Park.
