But just as a weakening dollar started to staunch the migration of TV shows and films to the Great White North,

a gaggle of new state tax incentives has Hollywood's jobs heading east.

This week on the business, a hit network TV show picks up and moves to New York,

stirring up the enduring question.

Why doesn't California do something

to put the brakes on runaway production?

We'll talk to the producer of Ugly Betty,

the show that's packed its bags for Gotham,

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news last week that SAG's leadership was considering trying to persuade the 40,000 dual SAG and AFRA cardholders to oppose ratification of After's primetime TV pact.

In other strike-related news, the LA Times reported last week that a little-known proviso

in the actor's contract may force Hollywood studios to cough up some 10 million in back pay

lost during the writer's strike.
