Summary
On this episode of the podcast, Chewy and Eugene discuss the "Golden Rule" of competition.
We discuss why the way you win is just as important as if you win, doing the honorable thing in competition, why how you go about daily training is important for your success, why competitions are "controlled aggression" and not "animosity," what makes competing so unique, and the experience of coaching a student in a tournament.

| 0:00.0 | What up, guys. Welcome to the jujitsu podcast episode number 385. Getting a bunch of them. |
| 0:06.3 | Today's podcast, we're going to talk about an idea. It's a rule for my jihitsu. You don't have to be yours, but it's one of the ones I follow, about sort of the golden rule of competition. |
| 0:16.1 | And you'll see why I call it that in a minute. But it's something that I kind of go by and because I went from being a sort of a dirty, cheap little white belt who was trying to skirt |
| 0:26.4 | the rules to get the wind to now I will purposely go the opposite direction. |
| 0:31.1 | And I have a few experiences that I'll tell you as to why. |
| 0:34.2 | And hopefully this is useful to you. |
| 0:36.1 | And whether you compete or not, it's something to just |
| 0:38.3 | consider about having sort of a philosophies and sets of rules to guide you. I think it's useful. |
| 0:45.6 | You know, we look in a world where a lot of times, at least for me, I look around and I see people |
| 0:50.8 | who are not based in principles, meaning, you know, you see this all |
| 0:55.2 | the time. Here's a quick example. Look at politics, right? So you will see someone do something, |
| 1:01.1 | and most people have been curtailed to believe that, you know, everything is sort of one side or the |
| 1:08.8 | other, and they will forego their |
| 1:11.7 | normal behavior and principles that they say are wrong as long as it benefits their side of it. |
| 1:16.7 | It's almost like saying that you're against referees making bad calls, but then you're watching |
| 1:22.0 | your basketball game and your team benefits from the bad call and you turn a blind eye, |
| 1:26.7 | you don't care. |
| 1:27.1 | That's fine. We got, we're getting the benefit of it, so who cares? You see that a lot of times with people. I'll explain kind of how that works in Jiu-Jitsu as well, but I think it's useful to have those sort of guidelines for yourself. You don't have to have a ton of them, but some of them are important. And it could also be useful to your training, even if you don't compete. So we'll talk about it in a second. Big thanks to our sponsors for help and make this |
| 1:47.3 | podcast happen. Charlotte's Web CBD. Again, if you haven't checked them out, they're one of the |
| 1:51.8 | OGs in the CBD space. They've been around for a long time. They originally created their |
| 1:56.2 | product for a family that was, you know, dealing with a young woman who, a young girl who was |
| 2:02.3 | having some illnesses that were assisted with using CBD oil. |
