What is at the core of the university? What are the most important values that differentiate this institution from other institutions in society?

And for me, that core is academic freedom, free speech, the idea that we're a place

apart where you have a constant contestation of ideas.

There's point, there's counterpoint, There's point, there's

counterpoint, there's testing, there's evaluation,

and ultimately the belief is through that kind of interaction

one gets to a deeper level of truth. And now the good fight with Yasha Monk.

Over the past weeks and months a lot of thinkers and writers and intellectuals have made big projections about the kinds of changes that the coronavirus will bring about.

Some people think that it is sure to be the end of globalization.

Others go even further, they say that our social lives will remain unrecognizable in the future.

That this may be the end of bars and cafes and restaurants and parties and mass gatherings.

Well, I have to say that I'm skeptical about some of these projections.

Think of the immense suffering that people experienced during World War I

and then the Spanish influenza which killed more people by some, than the preceding war.

A lot of young people with healthy immune systems
