I'm your host, retired NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

Folks were revisiting, of course, the shooting in Lewiston, Maine, Robert Card.

And as the investigators dig deeper into this, it winds up that many, many, many mistakes were

made in this case.

And in that way, many, many mistakes were made in this case. And in that way, really,

the police knew all about this and other authorities knew about this. And a lot of confusion as to who takes responsibility and who now should be taking responsibility?

And we know right here, those are the 18 people that died because the right thing wasn't done in this case.

And I don't say that lightly.

I don't point blame at anyone lightly, but it's irrefutable in this case that deadly mistakes were made.

Very deadly mistakes.

And Maine, according to the New York Times, is a rare Democratic-controlled state with loose gun laws.

The mass shooting that killed at least 18 people on Wednesday occurred in a state with a record of resisting gun restrictions.

Just months before this week's mass shooting in Lewiston, Mainz, the legislature

considered three major bills to tighten gun restrictions, one to require criminal background

checks for gun purchases, another to create a 72-hour waiting period before someone could take

possession of a gun after purchasing

it. And third, to outlaw modifications that make semi-automatic weapons more deadly.

All three bills were defeated in the Maine Senate by sizable margins.

Maine is a largely blue state where Democrats control both chambers of the state legislature

and the governorship has a long history of resisting gun control measures. The shootings in Lewiston

on Wednesday that left 18 people dead, already fueling renewed calls from gun control groups to expand firearm restrictions in Maine.
