Today is July 7, 2024 and this is episode 46 of The Roads Not Taken, which is a weekly series

where we go through the previous week's events and talk about

news that was unreported, underreported, didn't get the coverage I thought it deserved or I just found it

interesting. And then at the end we go through some questions from y'all.

Okay so starting off in foreign policy news China is putting together a test

mission to smash into an asteroid.

It's a similar concept to American planetary defense tests like Dart, but they're engaging in it.

This is going under foreign policy rather than science

because this certainly appears to be more about a display of a display of capability.

There's a lot of, there's a lot of poker chips with this one if they can do it.

It shows a pretty advanced capability.

Okay there are signs of progress when it comes to a ceasefire for cause DCI Burns is

headed back over.

Again, it's signs, so we'll wait and see how it turns out. In Iran, a reformist

candidate won the presidential election. At time of filming I don't believe it's

been certified yet but it certainly appears as though it will be. The winner is

somebody who has historically favored diplomacy more than anything else.

So that may lead to a pretty big change in dynamics over there if the other parts of the

government are on board. There is chatter rumor mill stuff suggesting that South Korea might provide Ukraine with SRBs,

short-range ballistic missiles.

This is really coming about because of the whole Russia North Korea agreement.
