Welcome to this week's episode of the Running Effect with Dominic Schleader. I'm your host, Dominic,

0:15.9

and today we have a very special episode with Riley Masters. In this episode, we go through Riley's career.

0:24.0

In high school, he ran in Maine, so we get a little history lesson on Maine, some of the amazing

0:29.5

athletes to come out of there. And Riley was certainly one of those. He won, I believe, three

0:34.6

individual state titles at Bangor High School, and then he won a few state

0:38.4

titles as a team as well, which is really, really cool. So we go into some of those stories,

0:43.4

but we also go into his years at the University of Maine, where he, I believe, became the fifth

0:49.5

athlete to ever break four minutes from Maine, which is a really cool story. We go through some of his other

0:55.4

highlights in college, which include he transferred to Oklahoma. He had one of the fastest 1,500

1:01.6

meter times in the NCAA. He placed really high up at NCAA meets, becoming a multi-time All-American,

1:09.0

all that good stuff. But then we also go into his professional

1:12.1

years with the Brooks Beasts, Nike. We get some of his takes on running in 2021. But we also ask

1:19.1

insightful, more thoughtful questions like his thoughts on consistency, process over outcomes,

1:25.4

and some of those kind of things. One of my favorite parts of the episode

1:30.2

during the latter part of his career, he was coached by Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs.

1:35.9

So he goes into kind of that time with them, some of his thoughts on Magnolia Road versus

1:41.6

Gold Hill running with the Buffaloes and then some of the

1:45.0

principals he thinks that make Colorado a really good running program. So that's really,

1:50.3

really fun to hear and listen to and kind of glean inspiration and motivation from that. But then we

1:55.9

also top it off with the rapid fire questions, which is really, really fun. So thank you so much to Riley for doing

2:03.0

this show with me. I really appreciate it. And also just a note, we definitely had some technical

2:08.1

difficulties in this one. So thank you, Riley, for being so patient with me. And if some of his
