Welcome back to the Man Talk show.

So a few months ago, I was sitting in an airport and I was getting ready to board a plane.

0:08.8

And a friend of mine, Mr. Josh Radney, who's going to be a guest on the show here in the next few months,

0:14.4

sent me a text message with a New York Times article.

0:18.2

And the New York Times article was talking about the decline of young men,

0:23.0

the decline of men within our culture and society. And the article referenced this gentleman,

0:28.9

Richard Reeves, who had written a book called A Boys of Men, Why the Modern Male is struggling,

0:33.4

why it matters, and what to do about it. And so I immediately downloaded the book. And I think on the flight, I listened to like five hours, because it's a long flight and got through a good amount of the book. And then I think within the next couple days, I'd finished it off. But I immediately that day reached out to Richard, because after listening to the first couple chapters of the book, I was like, oh, we're going to have a phenomenal conversation about what's happening with young men in our culture and society. 1:17.1

He's written New York Times, Guardian, National Affairs, Atlantic, Democracy Journal,

1:21.7

Wall Street Journal, and a bunch of others.

1:24.3

We take a little bit of a different approach today.

1:26.6

You may or may not have heard him

1:28.7

on other shows, but we actually start off by talking about death, which has nothing to do with

1:38.0

the sort of decline of young boys, although maybe it ties in a little bit. But we talk about

1:43.0

death and Richard's relationship, Dr. it ties in a little bit, but we talk about death and Richard's

1:45.1

relationship, Dr. Reeves' relationship to death and how it showed up in his life, what he learned

1:50.1

from it. And then we segue into a conversation about the decline of young boys within our culture

1:57.7
