Hello from Washington. I'm Chuck Todd and this is the Chuck Todd cast. My

guest today is Richard Engel. He's of course the chief foreign correspondent for NBC News.

And we're to talk about a lot of his beat.

Specifically two regions in particular, the Middle East, with a focus on Gaza and of course Ukraine and a focus on that war as well

He's been he's been trying to get into one war zone Gaza. He's been on another one quite a bit.

Obviously has been, frankly, covering this region his entire professional life.

So if anybody can at least give us an idea. entire professional life.

So if anybody can at least give us an idea of what we're seeing, what we could see in the next

six months and what we could see in the next three to four years.

But the one point I want to get across with this podcast

is just sort of, you know, I'm asked quite a bit

about, you know, the importance of the 2024 election.

What's on the ballot, right?

Clearly abortion rights is on the ballot.

You know, I have a whole column I'm writing about on that once again.

And there's going to be a lot of domestic issues on the ballot,

the price of goods and services.

I would argue the biggest thing on the ballot

is America's role in the world. Now it's not going to

be something that a majority of people vote on. Frankly it's probably not going to

be something that even 10% of the population says they're voting on. But arguably, if, you know, here's what I do know.

We're going to elect a lame duck president, we're going to have a divided Congress.
