Summary

In a world full of skinfluencers and elaborate beauty marketing campaigns, dermatologist Dr. Ranella Hirsch is here to remind us that we might just be overthinking that skincare routine. Tune in for an incredible conversation on the danger of demonizing some skincare ingredients, obsessing over others, and relying on social media for all of our skincare knowledge. Plus, Dr. Hirsch gets into her own data-driven skincare brand Atolla, the problem with being so hush hush about Botox, and so much more. Grab a pen and some paper for this episode! You’re going to want to take some notes.

It isn't that I really don't think it's like

Hello, hello, it's Berkivard and you're listening to the Naked Beauty Podcast.

0:13.2

Welcome back for another episode. This is for people that are interested in skincare.

0:19.4

Even if you think you know everything about skincare, you will learn a lot from this episode.

0:24.8

And if you are as skincare newbie, I think this episode will be really impactful for you

0:29.5

because it really just lays out what are the fundamental foundational things you need to do to develop

0:35.0

a good skincare routine. So my guest today is Dr. Rinella Hirsch. She's a very accomplished dermatologist

0:41.4

based in Boston and I just love her no nonsense approach to skincare. She's a big myth buster and

0:48.8

she's also spent a lot of time on social media as she's been building up her own presence,

but it's something that she didn't do before. So I think as she's been online, she's seen the way

0:58.3

that skincare gets misconstrued and broken down to these very specific trends. So we talk about

1:04.4

a little of that. She has what she calls Rinella isms. These are her analogies that illustrate

1:10.2

skincare and how ingredients work and I love them and I find them to be so educational.

1:15.7

The other thing I like about this episode a lot is that as someone who is learning, as someone

1:20.5

who is not, I'm not a beauty editor, I am not, I'm certainly don't have any degree or certification

1:26.5

in skincare. I am just a skincare enthusiast and someone who follows the space closely.

1:33.6

And I think what's really important is the way that I talk about skincare today will be

1:40.4

different from the way that I talked about skincare two years ago or even six months ago.

1:45.7

And that's because the more that you learn, the more you adapt. And as I've been having so many

1:52.2

conversations lately and it's interesting. It's usually the dermatologists that are the ones

1:56.5

that are not into this whole concept of clean beauty. I really feel like, okay, is it a helpful

2:02.8

term at all? And what does it really mean? I like using the term clean beauty when you define
