Welcome to this new year of Come Follow Me, where we're going to be studying the Old Testament.

We are going to be diving into Jonah chapter 2 versus 5 through 6.

So God called Jonah to teach the Ninevites, but Jonah did not want to go. Instead of packing his bags and marching toward

Nineveh, he ran to the sea and got on a boat that became caught in a massive storm. The

storm tossed the ship so violently that the sailors were sure they were

going to die. Amid the storm, Jonah was thrown overboard, well, technically by the sailors,

which would surely lead to his death and the end of his chance to preach to the people of Nineveh.

But God had a different plan. Miraculously, a whale swallowed Jonah, where he stayed for three days.

While in the belly of the whale, Jonah prayed, quote,

The waters compassed me about even to the soul. The depth closed me round about. The weeds were wrapped about my head.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains. The earth with her bars was about me forever.

Yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord, my God.

Jonah recognized the miracle of where he was, but he was about to experience another miracle.

After three days, the whale spat Jonah out, whole, alive, and humbled.

Jonah had come back to life.

Similarly, when Jesus' body was placed in a tomb, his disciples thought he was dead forever.

They didn't expect him to return.

But after three days, he too came back to life.
